Restaurant Guide almost doubles in size
Flavour of Tyrone Good Food Circle offers wider choice of family fare
2005

Northern Ireland's first Good Food Circle has celebrated three years of success by welcoming six new member restaurants on board at a Flavour of Tyrone reception in Dungannon.

TV presenter Christine Bleakley, local chefs and guests drank a champagne toast at Viscounts Restaurants to the achievement of the Circle in almost doubling in size.

The list of recommended restaurants now covers the whole county of Tyrone from Strabane, Omagh and Cookstown to Fivemiletown, Clogher and Dungannon, as well as Ballygawley and Aughnacloy.

"It is a remarkable feat for Tyrone to publish its own Free Guide - plus a new website in July this year - to fine dining and local food produce," said Lisa Williamson, chair of the Flavour of Tyrone Good Food Circle. "I doubt if many other areas could bring together such a varied selection of 14 great quality places in which to eat out, or such excellent providers of food products."

"Not only are we making it easier than ever for people to choose the right place to have a meal that appeals to their taste and budget, we are also promoting the fresh local produce for which we are famous, through the Tyrone specialities on every member's menu."

"In our own restaurant in the Valley Hotel, for example, our Flavour of Tyrone dish is always one of the most popular, especially with tourists who want to savour the full delicious flavour of Tyrone for themselves!"

The Good Food Guide
- 'Use this invaluable Guide to discover the best food that Tyrone offers'
says award-winning travel journalist JOHN TREW

Since the launch of the first Good Food Circle Guide, I have eaten my way through its pages - not literally, of course - and have enjoyed many a Flavour of Tyrone Dish of the Day, prepared by imaginative chefs from Fivemiletown to the aptly-named COOKStown.

This expanded Guide makes it easy for every resident and visitor to discover a much wider range of top-class restaurants in which to enjoy the true taste of Tyrone at value-for-money prices.

I can honestly say that the food, ambiance and service of Tyrone's family-run restaurants often exceeds that of some world-famous establishments which I am privileged to sample in my career as a globe-trotting greedy guts.

You can confidently choose from the appetising variety of highly rated establishments in this invaluable Guide covering the whole county, from Strabane to Dungannon. Wherever you go, you can look forward to excellent fare prepared by chefs with cosmopolitan flair, using the fresh produce for which the region is renowned.

Savour the Flavour of Tyrone!

John Trew
